Hruba for the Win

University of Hawaii freshman tennis player Marina Hruba accomplished what some say might be the impossible.

In the Czech Republic Hruba was unable to balance school and tennis. Her coaches and classmates did not take a liking to her wanting to do both. Upon Hruba’s freshman year in college, she was selected 2016 Big West Freshman of the year winning an outstanding 21-1 in her first season. Even defeating opponents nationally ranked.

“Really enjoy what you are doing and don’t overdo it,” said Hruba.

The all-star athlete also is taking up a degree in translation and is currently taking up the Japanese language. With Hruba balancing both academics as well as athletics Hruba finds beekeeping to be one of her all time getaways from her busy life.

“My father did beekeeping as a hobby,” said Hruba.

This freetime hobby is said to be therapeutic for her as well as showing her how much we take bee’s and honey for granted.

Having won so many events as well as accomplishments Hruba saying, “I was quite surprised.”

During her games Hruba goes into the game and plays as though every opponent is going to be difficult, always challenging herself to do better at the end of every game.
